Problems with your child’s teeth can start at an early age. During this period, future problems may be prevented by gathering information about the nutrition of the baby, oral care and milk sucking habits. Parents should check their children’s oral hygiene and take their children to dentist control every 6th month. The best time for your child’s first dental examination is six months after the baby’s first teeth erupt.

Milk Teeth

Milk teeth begin to appear when a child is 6-8 months old and a child has 20 milk teeth when 2-3 years old.

The function of milk teeth is to provide better nutrition, speech, appearance. Furthermore, they lead to permanent teeth and guide them. When a milk tooth is removed earlier than normal time, this guidance function is no more possible. Early loss of milk teeth disrupts the jaw and teeth structure. In addition, the child’s nutrition and development might be affected due to chewing discomfort.

For this reason, milk teeth should be protected until the time of replacement, and if there is decay, it should be treated.

Babies may experience problems such as drooling, lethargy, restlessness, insomnia, diarrhea, fever, jaw or face redness, mild cough during the course of their milk teeth. These problems can begin 2-3 months before the tooth’s appearance. These can vary depending on the baby. It is best to give them something that they can chew during this period. If necessary, medication may be given with the advice of the doctor.

Milk teeth contain more organic substance than normal teeth, which is why they are prone to decay easily. One should not think that the new and permanent teeth are going to replace them and take good care of milk teeth.

Milk teeth begin to change at the age of 6-7. Between the ages of 6-13 is the period of mixed teeth. After this period, milk teeth are replaced by permanent teeth. First molar teeth appear around the age of 6, behind the milk teeth on both sides in the lower and upper jaw. As they appear at an early age, they might be confused as milk teeth. However, they are the first teeth that are the main center of chewing. It is essential to preserve them well. To protect these teeth from decay, Fissure sealant applications should be made.
